| Air Malta International Travel Exhibition |

The first Air Malta International Travel Exhibition, AMITEX, was held at the Mediterranean Conference Center in Valletta in 1994 and was officially inaugurated by the then Prime Minister Eddie Fenech Adami.
The main scope of AMITEX is to:
- have a professionally organised travel fair in Malta
- promote outgoing tourism from Malta
- provide a forum for discussion between the various travel trade partners
- use the forum as a launch pad for destination diversification and for product enhancement
- give the traveling public a forum to interact with the travel trade.
- be the premium Malta showcase for Air Malta.
In 1995, AMITEX was moved to the larger Trade Fairs Centre in Naxxar in order to accommodate the immediate increased interest shown both by participants, partners and the general public.
In the following years, AMITEX grew from strength to strength, and this success was reflected in the sharp increase in the number of Maltese persons traveling overseas.
