Two/three course lunches and dinners served in restaurants range between Lm 4.00 and Lm 7.00 for a lunch, and Lm 7.50 to Lm 13.00 for a dinner. Trattorias, snack-bars and coffee shops serve light meals and snacks.

Tipping

Taxi drivers - 10 per cent; porters - 15 cents to 20 cents per piece of luggage; restaurants, unless a service charge has been added to the bill, 10 per cent.

Shopping

Shops are usually open between the hours of 9 am and 7 pm with a three hour lunch break. In commercial areas frequented by tourists however, most shops remain open until approximately 10.00 pm. Shops are not open on Sundays and Public Holidays. There are open-air markets, one day a week, in most towns and villages. The largest is the Valletta market on Sunday mornings. Major Credit Cards, Travellers Cheques and Eurocheques are accepted at most leading shops and restaurants.
