Sports Clubs
The Malta Sports Council is the governing sports body on the Island. The facilities which fall under their jurisdiction include a regional complex in the south of the Island (The Cottonera Sports Complex), which was built in 2003 and officially opened in March of that year. This complex has seen many national and international events since then. In addition, it housed a children’s sports welcome event for the Queen of England when Malta hosted the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting recently.

A second regional complex is planned for the central part of the Island in the Karwija area, and plans are in hand to begin development. The Marsa Sports Complex houses the opportunity for many sports including a running track and other athletic facilities. While the National Swimming Pool Complex, in the north offers an Olympic size swimming pool, which is used by local swimmers and water polo players, as well as foreign teams who train in Malta.
